Washington DC is the capital of the United States. It is located in the mid-Atlantic region of the East coast, and named after one of the Founding Fathers, George Washington. The White House, which houses the president, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial, are symbols of the city. The city, which was founded in the aftermath of the American Revolution is home to nearly 200 consulates, and institutional headquarters such as the World Bank and the IMF. The Library of Congress, which has the largest collection in the world of approximately 168 million books, the National Museum of Natural History, the Newseum, and the National Museum of American History, are located in Washington. The city is home to the the NFL team, the Washington Redskins, the baseball team, the Washington Nationals, and the Ice Hockey team, the Washington Capitals.
