The city of Tiberias, named after the Roman emperor Tiberius, is located on the west shore of the Sea of Galilee in Israel. It is mentioned in the Bible as being the place from which people sailed in search of Jesus after the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. Since the 16th century, it has been considered one of the four holy cities of Judaism, along with Jerusalem, Hebron and Safed. Hammat Tiberias, which is now a part of the modern city, has been renowned for its hot springs, said to cure skin and other ailments, for around two thousand years.
