Sri Lanka is an island state in South Asia, with its capital at Colombo. The country changed its former name “Ceylon” to Sri Lanka in 1972, and is regarded as “The Pearl of the Indian Ocean.” The world’s first female prime minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike served as the leader of Sri Lanka. The country, which is an important producer of tea and cinnamon, is also the host for the oldest tree planted by humans, “Sri Maha Bodhiaya.” In Sri Lanka, there is an orphanage for orphan elephants. The mountain called “Adam’s Peak” is believed to have Adam’s or Buddha’s or Shiva’s footprint according to different belief systems.
