Romário de Souza Faria (born 1966), popularly known as Romário, is a retired Brazilian footballer who is famous for his goalscoring exploits. Over his career, Romário is said to have scored over 1,000 goals, although not all of them were in professional contests. Romário won the Netherlands’ Eredivisie title with PSV in 1989, 1991, and 1992; Spain’s La Liga title with Barcelona in 1994; and Brazil’s Serie A title with Vasco da Gama in 2000. The player was also instrumental in helping Brazil’s national team win the 1994 World Cup, during which time he scored five goals. Following his retirement, Romário entered politics, joining Brazil’s Senate as a lawmaker for the Podemos party.
