Rio de Janeiro, the most famous city in Brazil, used to be the capital of Portugal, and was the only European capital outside of the continent in history. Sambadrome is the official parade ground of the world-famous Rio Carnival. The city is known for its famous beaches such as Ipanema and Copacabana, as well as natural beauties such as Tijuca National Park, and Sugarloaf Mountain. The statue of Christ the Redeemer, which is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, is one of the city’s most recognized symbols. The city hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Maracana, the world’s largest stadium by capacity, is in this city. The famous footballer Ronaldo Nazario, and one of the brilliant names of modern architecture, Oscar Niemeyer, were born in Rio.
