The Republic of the Philippines, the capital city of which is Manila, is a Southeast Asian country. Its name comes from the king Philip II of Spain, and it is a constitutional republic.The three stars on its flag symbolize the three largest islands of the country; Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The Philippines is the first Southeast Asian country to gain independence after World War II.
