Jair Ventura Filho (born 1944), better known as Jairzinho, is a former Brazilian footballer. When he was young, Jairzinho idolized Garrincha, a legendary Brazilian footballer in his own right. A fast winger, Jairzinho played most of his career for Rio-based Botafogo, for whom he scored 186 goals over a 15-year span. Jairzinho also played regularly for Brazil between 1964 and 1974, during which he time he was part of the all-conquering “Seleção” team that won the 1970 World Cup over Italy. During the tournament, scored seven of the 33 goals he recorded while playing for the national team.
