Cebu is an island in the Central Visayas Region in the Philippines and is one of Asia’s top holiday destinations. Spanish Catholic missionaries first came to the island in 1565 and founded Cebu City, which subsequently became the main domestic shipping port. In the past 10 years, the city has seen significant economic growth and urbanization, both as a result of its business-friendly, English-speaking outsourcing services. However, the surrounding hillsides are prevalent with farms that produce a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. Colon Street is the fascinating old center of Cebu and is fast becoming a tourist attraction.
