Belo Horizonte is the capital of Brazil's Minas Gerais State. With its tidy, tree-lined streets, it is a welcoming city for long walks. One of the country’s first examples of modern architecture, São Francisco de Assis Church, was not accepted or blessed by the Catholic Church for a long time because of its design. The Circuito Cultural Praça da Liberdade district, in the historic part of the city, is home to cultural institutions and art education centers such as The Automobile Museum, UEMG, CENA, and Oi Futuro. The Museu de Artes e Ofícios, built inside a 19th-century railway station, features contemporary artists’ works.
