AL RAYYAN

Al Rayyan is a city within the Al Rayyan municipality of the state of Qatar. It is the third-largest municipality in the country. It derives its name from the Arabic term "ray", which translates to "irrigation". The name was due to its low elevation, which allows it to act as a flood plain. Unlike Qatar’s other urban centers, which were largely dependent on maritime activities, nomadic herding of livestock and small-scale crop cultivation have always been important contributors to the livelihoods of its inhabitants. Landmarks and historical sites of interest include the Al Wajbah Fort, Education City, Qatar Science & Technology Park and Qatar National Convention Centre.
