AFGHANISTAN

Afghanistan is a Central Asian country located within the Himalayas, Hindu Kush and Pamir Mountains. The country’s capital is Kabul. In 1979, it fell under Soviet occupation for ten years, and in 2001, was dragged into an internal conflict with American involvement that lasted for years. The history of the country, which is currently trying to regain stability, has been repeatedly disrupted by such conflicts. Nonetheless, Afghans come together for their New Year celebration“Nowruz” in the Blue Mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif, every year. At the same time, some of the world’s oldest oil paintings, which date back to 650 AD and depict Buddhist motifs, were found in a cave in Bamiyan.
