Abkhazia, which has a long and illustrious history, is a Caucasian country on the Black Sea coast. Its capital is Sokhumi. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, it fell under the sovereignty of Georgia and declared its independence in 1999. Abkhazia, with its long coastline and snowy peaks, is a popular tourist destination. Lake Ritsa is home to natural wonders such as the Afon Cave, as well as cultural landmarks like the Novi Afon Cathedral, considered to be one of the most spectacular buildings in the world.
