Our “How To” guide series continues. Each one of us has our own definition of 'a good quality of life'. However, these are the steps everyone can take to make their life more enjoyable. Here are our ideas for some simple steps to boost your self-confidence and personal well-being during these dark times.

1. Healthy relationships

Starting with your closest ones, you should always try to maintain healthy and supportive relationships. Research shows that healthy relationships with those close to you increase your happiness, life satisfaction, mental well-being, as well as reducing suicidal thoughts. On the flipside, disconnecting from toxic and negative relationships is vital for your wellbeing.

2. A good night sleep

Here I’m not just talking about good “sleep”, I’m talking about a good “night's sleep”. Sleep is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. The hormones we release at night which reenergize our body work much better when our eyes are closed. Sleep also affects your productivity, emotional balance, creativity, and even your weight.

3. Keep yourself active

Regular exercise has a magnificent effect on your physical and mental health. Not only does it shrink your waistline, exercise can also cure depression, relieve anxiety, improve your memory and help you sleep better, all of which boosts your overall mood. You don’t need to be a gym freak to experience these benefits. Just doing 30 minutes of exercise every day can make a big difference.

4. Your career

The career you choose is part of your identity and shapes how you feel about yourself. Whatever your title or the size of your salary, working in a career you view as pointless and directionless can be both physically and emotionally draining. It may not be possible to change your career paths, but even so you can still find meaning in your life by reconstructing your typical workday.

5. Limit your tolerations

'Tolerations' are things which drain your energy on a daily basis, and they come in many shapes and forms. An unsolved conflict with a family member, a disrespectful person in your life, etc. You should confront these situations head-on before things start to accumulate and weigh you down.

6. Create time for leisure

Leisure time is more important than many people realize. We need pleasurable activities to reenergize ourselves. Doing something fun lowers your stress level and improves your overall mood.

7. Drink more water

The general rule is to drink at least 2 liters of water every day. But too often many of us don’t take in enough. Plus, often we get our water intake from soda, coffee, tea, and other unhealthy drinks.

8. Teach yourself

Spend each day learning just a little bit about something you find interesting, and over time you’ll see incredible results. This will be especially useful if you study something related to your work which can help you to advance your career.
